This table serves as a visual cheat sheet for classifying acoustic detections in the Atlantic. Match the colors and symbols seen in the Pamguard click detector to the species listed below.

  • 🞳 Green Star: Upsweep between 30-50 kHz (Beaked whales, Risso’s dolphins)
  • ◆ Orange Diamond: Peak Freq. 2-15 kHz (Sperm whales, false killer whales)
  • ⬣ Red Hexagon: Peak Freq. 15-30 kHz (Pilot whales, killer whales, rough-toothed dolphins, common dolphins, and Cuvier’s beaked whales)
  • ● Blue Circle: Peak Freq. 30-50 kHz (Striped, bottlenose, spinner, and spotted dolphins; beaked whales)
  • ■ Yellow Square: Peak Freq. 50-80 kHz (Large groups of dolphins close to the ship)
  • ▲ Pink Triangle: Peak Freq. 80-200 kHz (Kogia)
